本标准规定了供水水质要求、水源水质要求、水质检验和监测、水质安全规定。
本标准适用于城市公共集中式供水、自建设施供水和二次供水。
 城市公共集中式供水企业、自建设施供水和二次供水单位，在其供水和管理范围内的供水水质应达到本标准规定的水质要求。用户受水点的水质也应符合本标准规定的水质要求。
