本文件规定了预测照相彩色影像的长期暗存储稳定性的试验方法，和在规定温度和相对湿度经特定光源照射后，此类影像的颜色稳定性试验方法。
本文件适用于传统的连续色调照相材料制作的照相彩色影像，这些影像是由染料形成的，包括成色染料、银染料漂白、染料转移和染料扩散转移拍立得体系。该测试在评估墨粉和液体油墨电子照相、热染料转移（有时称为染料升华)、喷墨打印、颜料明胶系统、胶印、凹版印刷和相关彩色成像系统产生的彩色影像的稳定性方面尚未得到验证，如果这些反射照片材料（包括卤化银成色型）是数字照片的，参考ISO 18936、1SO 18941、ISO 18946和ISO 18949进行暗稳定性测试,以及参考ISO 18937(所有部分)进行光稳定性测试。
