本文件规定了旋转电机的结构型式、安装型式及接线盒位置的分类——IM代码。
两种分类方法规定如下：
——代码1（见第4章）：字母数字代号适用于具有端盖式轴承和一个轴伸的电机。
——代码2（见第5章）：全数字代号适用于更广的电机型式，包括代码1涉及的电机型式。
代码2中未列入的电机型式需作完整的文字说明。
代码1和代码2之间的关系见附录A。
