本文件规定了默认方法的替代方法。其中一些方法会降低整体精度，但提高了标准的适用性。有些方法可能产生相同或更高的整体精度，但包括尚未广泛应用于商业航运的要素。
本文件概述的一般原则和定义的性能指标适用于采用固定螺距螺旋桨的所有船舶类型，目的是比较同一艘船舶船体和螺旋桨性能随时间推移而发生的变化。
本文件第4章规定了测量参数（主要参数和次要参数）的替代方法，第5章规定了替代的测量程序（包括替代的参考期和评估期），第6章规定了性能指标的计算，第7章规定了性能指标精度的评估，与GB/T 40523.2-2021结构类似，以便于这两个标准之间的交叉引用。
