本标准规定了大型蒸汽灭菌器技术要求——自动控制型的术语和定义、型式与基本参数、要求和试验方法。
本标准适用于可以装载一个或者多个灭菌单元、容积大于60 L的大型蒸汽灭菌器（以下简称灭菌器）。该灭菌器主要用于医疗保健产品及其附件的灭菌。
按本标准设计和生产的灭菌器应考虑产品寿命周期中的环境因素的影响。环境因素参见附录A。
本标准未规定用于控制灭菌器制造生产的各个阶段的质量保证体系的要求。
本标准不适用于手动控制型的大型蒸汽灭菌器。
