本标准适用于各种组织结构和纤维组分的地毯。
本标准规定试样处于水平位置，其试验结果不适用以其他位置使用的地毯的燃烧性能。
本方法仅用于在控制的实验室条件下，地毯材料或组合系统对热和火焰的反应性能评定，而不能用于对地毯在实际着火条件下的易燃性的评价或规定。在贸易中，按照ISO 2859抽样方案进行抽样，本方法可以作为一种满意的试验手段在商品验收试验中广泛应用。
