本标准规定了已知用摩尔分数表示的气体组成时，计算干天然气、天然气代用品和其他气体燃料的高位发热量、低位发热量、密度、相对密度及沃泊指数的方法。
本方法同时给出了所计算各物性值的估计的精密度。
本标准适用于任何干天然气、天然气代用品以及通常是气体状态的其他燃料。对于以体积为基准的物性计算，本方法仅局限于组成中甲烷摩尔分数不小于0.5的气体。
