本标准适用于金属粉末比表面积的测定。测定范围0.1 m2/g～1 000 m2/g。非金属粉末及微孔材料的比表面积测定亦可参照使用。
本标准所测定比表面积为粉末的总比表面积，包括氮分子可进入粉末体的任何开孔比表面积；它不同于用空气透过法测定的比表面积，后者系指包络表面积。
