本标准规定了化学纤维短纤维长度试验方法：束纤维中段称量法、单纤维仪器测量法(附录A)和单纤维手工测量法(附录B)。有争议时采用束纤维中段称量法，该法不适用时相关方商定相应的试验方法。
本标准适用于聚酯(涤纶)、聚酰胺(锦纶)、聚丙烯腈(腈纶)、聚丙烯(丙纶)、聚乙烯醇缩甲醛(维纶)、纤维素纤维等化学纤维短纤维平均长度、长度偏差率、超长纤维率和倍长纤维含量的测定。
