本标准采用抽象方法及下列术语定义了由OSI会话层提供的外部可见服务：
a) 服务的原语动作和事件；
b) 与各原语动作和事件相关联的参数数据；
c) 原语动作和事件之间的关系及有效顺序。
本标准中所定义的服务是由OSI会话协议（连同运输服务）提供的，并可被OSI表示协议使用的那些服务。
本标准不规定个别的实现或产品，也不对计算机系统内的实体和接口的实现加以限制，因此，不存在对本标准的一致性要求。
与对称同步功能单元有关的文本不适用于对ITU-T应用的支持。
