GB/T 1634的本部分规定了测定塑料负荷（三点加荷下的弯曲应力）变形温度的方法。为适应不同类型材料，规定了不同类型试样和不同的恒定试验负荷。
GB/T 1634.2对塑料（包括填充塑料、纤维长度不大于7.5 mm的纤维增强塑料）和硬橡胶规定了具体要求，GB/T 1634.3对高强度热固性层压材料规定了具体要求。
本部分适用于评价不同类型材料在负荷下，以规定的升温速率升至高温时的相对性能。所得结果不一定代表其可适用的最高温度。因为实际使用时的主要因素如时间、负荷条件和标称表面应力等，可能与本试验条件不同。只有从室温弯曲模量相同的材料得到的数据，才有真正的可比性。
本部分规定了所用试样的优选尺寸。本部分通常称作HDT（热变形试验），虽然没有任何正式文件使用该标识符号。
