GB/T 16508的本部分规定了锅壳锅炉受压元件允许使用的材料牌号及其标准、基本技术要求（包括钢板、钢管、钢锻件、铸钢件、铸铁件、吊杆和拉撑、紧固件、焊接材料）、适用范围（温度和压力）和许用应力，以及非受压元件允许使用的材料牌号及其标准。
