本标准规定了采用电位滴定法测定燃料中硫醇硫含量的方法。
本标准适用于汽油、煤油、喷气燃料和馏分燃料，硫醇硫质量分数的测定范围为0.000 3%～0.01%。有机硫化合物，如硫化物、二硫化物及噻吩，不干扰测定。质量分数小于0.000 5%的元素硫不干扰测定。硫化氢若不脱除对测定有干扰，硫化氢的脱除见8.2所述。
