GB/T 18490的本部分给出了由激光加工机产生的危险，针对激光辐射和被加工物料产生的危险，规定了有关的安全要求，并给出了这类设备的制造商应提供的信息资料。
本部分不包括激光加工机产生的噪声危害的要求，相关内容见GB/T 18490.3-2017。
本部分不适用于仅为下列应用制造的激光产品或者包含激光产品的设备：
-- 照相平板印刷术；
-- 立体光刻照相术；
-- 全息摄影术；
-- 医学应用；
-- 数据存储。
