本标准适用于额定电压不超过交流440 V，额定电流不超过125 A的家用和类似用途的剩余电流监视器（以下简称RCM）。
RCM是用来监视设备中的剩余电流，并在带电部件与外露的导电部件或地之间的剩余电流超过预定值时发出报警信号。
本标准涉及的RCM不能用来作为保护装置使用。
RCM检测突然施加的或缓慢上升的交流剩余电流和脉动直流剩余电流（见8.16）。
