本标准规定了直流架空电力线路用瓷或玻璃绝缘子串元件（以下简称绝缘子）的特性，以及检验这些特性规定值的条件和接收准则。
本标准规定了与 GB/T 1001.1 相类似的基本特性试验。为保证直流绝缘子的长期性能，需要在此基础上增加一些试验。目前，这些增加的试验仅涉及盘形悬式绝缘子。
本标准适用于标称电压高于 1 500 V 的直流架空电力线路用绝缘子。
本标准不适用于复合绝缘子。
本标准不包括特定运行条件下的绝缘子选择要求或特殊试验，例如，由特定运行条件引起的老化。
