本标准适用于交流线路、变电站悬垂和耐张用复合绝缘子，但这些绝缘子在某些场合也可能会受到压缩或弯曲负荷，例如用作相间间隔棒绝缘子时。绝缘子由绝缘芯棒、伞套和端部装配件构成。承受负荷的芯棒由树脂浸渍玻璃纤维制成，伞套由聚合体材料制成，端部装配件永久安装在绝缘芯棒上。
