本标准规定了热喷涂涂层应用于提高零件表面性能或废旧零件修复、再制造过程中的一般性工艺规程。由于热喷涂工艺、喷涂零件的形状、涂层物理化学性能的多样性，本标准不对具体的零件涂层提供决定性解决方法。本标准适用于选择热喷涂工艺规程和涂层材料的一般性情况。本标准不适用于钢结构耐大气环境腐蚀热喷涂锌、铝及其合金涂层，热喷涂锌、铝及其合金涂层的适用标准为GB/T 9793。本标准同样不适用于自熔性合金重熔涂层，自熔性合金重熔涂层的适用标准为GB/T 16744。
