本部分是对《简图用图形符号》所有部分的总体介绍，尤其是它给出了使简图图形符号登记序号一致性的创建和使用信息，给出了描述和应用这些符号的准则，并且给出了应用实例。本部分包括3个索引，第一个索引是中文索引，第二个索引是注册图形符号索引，这两个索引仅限于《简图用图形符号》中GB/T 20063.2～GB/T 20063.12，第三个索引是与其他国际标准相关联条款的相互参照索引。
简图用图形符号的创建和使用的基本规则，见GB/T 16901.1—1997。
