GB 20840的本部分适用于新制造的线对地的单相电容式电压互感器，其设备最高电压Um≥72.5 kV，〖JP〗频率为15 Hz～100 Hz。它们为测量、控制和继电保护装置提供低电压。
电容式电压互感器可以装载波附件，用于载波频率为30 kHz～500 kHz的电力线路载波（PLC）系统。
耦合电容器及电容分压器的基本要求按照GB/T 19749。电力线载波（PLC）结合设备的传输要求按照GB/T 7329。
测量功能包括指示测量和计费测量。
