GB/T 20897的本部分规定了总长小于8 m，最小浮力为1800 N的充气艇（包括刚性充气艇）的设计、材料、制造和试验的最低安全要求。
本部分适用于拟在环境温度为-20 ℃～60 ℃运行的下列类型的充气艇:
--Ⅶ型：能获得发动机额定功率为15 kW及以上的充气艇；
--Ⅷ型：能获得发动机额定功率为75 kW及以上，且稳性系数大于250的充气艇。
