本标准规定了液态、乳液态或悬浮态聚合物和树脂，包括聚合物分散体系，采用具有标准几何结构的旋转黏度计在规定的剪切速率下黏度测定的一般原则。
依据本标准进行的黏度测定是由确定剪切力和剪切速率之间的关系构成的。根据本标准采用不同仪器测定得到的结果是可比的，并且既可以调节测试仪器也可以控制剪切力。
