本标准规定了低噪声内燃机电站（以下简称电站）的噪声指标、原则性的降噪措施和测量噪声的方法。至于电站的其他性能指标，应符合相应国家标准、国家军用标准和行业标准的规定。
本标准适用于由往复式内燃机（RIC）驱动的工频（50 Hz/60 Hz）、中频（400 Hz）、双频（50 Hz/400 Hz）、直流、交直流陆用和船用电站。不适用于航空或驱动陆用车辆和机车的低噪声电站。对于本标准中规定的测量、评价和考核噪声的方法，除了适用于本标准中规定的电站外，也适用于其他任何内燃机电站。
