本标准规定了色漆、清漆、色漆基料、溶剂、石油或相关产品闪点的一种测定方法。
本标准不适于测定水性涂料，水性涂料的测定可采用ISO 3679的方法。
本标准适用的温度范围根据所采用的仪器不同而不同，从-30℃到110℃(见表1)。
含卤代烃的混合溶剂所测得的结果应引起注意，因为这些混合溶剂可能给出不规则的结果。
