本标准规定了GB 16959—1997《信息技术 信息交换用藏文编码字符集 基本集》和GB/T 20542—2006 《信息技术 藏文编码字符集 扩充集A》中的1 729个图形字符的24×48点阵字型，藏文字型采用吾坚琼体（参见附录A）
标准主要适用于藏文信息处理系统中的显示设备、点阵式印刷设备，也可用于其他相关设备。
