本标准规定了自行的履带式和轮胎式机械挖掘机及其工作装置/附属装置的术语。机械挖掘机主要用于牵引、挖掘、抓取及临时吊装作业。机械挖掘机的主机在钻孔、打桩等特殊应用中，常被用作工作装置/附属装置的载体，这些工作装置/附属装置的尺寸规格不在本标准范围之内。
