本标准确立了当天然气中水含量或水露点其中之一为已知时两者之间一个可靠的数学关系式；并给出了关联式的不确定度，但对测量不确定度不作量化规定。
本标准的计算方法，既适用于水含量的计算，也适用于水露点的计算。
除特别说明外，本标准采用的体积标准参比条件为：压力为101.325 kPa，温度为20 ℃。
