本标准规定了使用100 mm/min恒定拉伸速度的试验仪器测定抗张强度、断裂时伸长率、抗张能量吸收和抗张挺度的方法，并规定了抗张指数、抗张能量吸收指数、抗张挺度指数和弹性模量的计算公式。
与其他抗张强度性能相比，抗张挺度对伸长量的测定准确度要求更高。如果使用较低的准确度进行伸长量的测定，得到的抗张挺度值将与本标准不一致。
本标准适用于所有纸和纸板，包括高伸长率的纸，如皱纹纸和伸性纸袋纸。
本标准不适用于低密度的纸，如卫生纸及其制品。
