本标准规定了采用翻转吸收法测定织物抗吸水性的方法。本标准适用于经过或未经过防水整理或拒水整理的所有织物，尤其适用于测定织物经整理后的防水效果，因为该方法中织物承受的动态条件与实际使用情况类似。
本方法用来测定织物的抗吸水性，也可用来预测服装在实际使用中可能产生的增重量。本方法最适用于在潮湿环境下长时间使用的服用织物。
本方法不能用于预测织物的防雨水渗透能力，因为方法中测量的是织物所吸入的水分量而非渗透过的水分量。
