本标准规定了带螺纹的套管、油管、管线管和旋转台肩式连接所用螺纹脂的要求、检验和试验方法。本标准规定的试验是用于评价螺纹脂在实验室情况下的使用性能和物理及化学性能。
本标准试验方法适用于润滑基脂配方的螺纹脂，不适用于其他配方的螺纹脂。很多地区或现场对这一类型的螺纹脂有环境保护方面的要求，但本标准未包括满足环境保护的要求。最终用户负责调查这些要求并相应地做出选择、使用和处理螺纹脂及相关废弃物的决定。
