本标准是有关色漆、清漆及相关产品取样和试验的系列标准之一。
本标准规定了测定色漆、清漆及其原材料中挥发性有机化合物(VOC)含量的方法，主要适用于VOC含量大于15%(质量分数)的样品。当预期VOC含量大于0.1%(质量分数)而小于15%(质量分数)时，应采用GB/T 23986。
本方法假定挥发物是水或有机物。如存在其他的挥发性无机化合物，需要用其他合适的方法进行定量测定并在计算时考虑扣除。
