本标准适用于以环氧乙烷为原料生产的表面活性剂，如乙氧基化烷基硫酸盐、聚乙二醇等产品中残留的微量1,4-二氧六环（1,4-二噁烷）的测定。含此类表面活性剂的个人护理用品亦可参考使用本标准确定的方法，测定所含的1,4-二氧六环（1,4-二噁烷）。
本标准适用于测定含不低于5 mg/kg 1,4-二噁烷（采用氢火焰离子化检测器）或2.5 mg/kg 1,4-二噁烷（采用质量选择检测器）的样品，当1,4-二噁烷含量超过100 mg/kg时，需要增加标准溶液的浓度或将样品稀释或减量测定。
