本标准规定了起重机和吊链用以及一般起重用6级普通精度链的要求。该链条是经过充分的热处理和试验的圆钢电焊短环链，并符合GB/T 20946规定的验收总则。
本标准适用于名义尺寸为5 mm～45 mm的链条，附录中还给出了6 mm～30 mm链条的暂用附加名义尺寸。
