本标准规定了马尾松毛虫（Dendrolimus punctatus）、油松毛虫（D.tabulaeformis）、赤松毛虫（D.spectabilis）、落叶松毛虫（D.superans）、云南松毛虫（D.houi）、思茅松毛虫（D.kikuchii）等6种主要松毛虫的发生类型、发生程度和成灾标准、防治对策、防治技术、施药方法、防治要求及防治效果检查。
本标准适用于全国范围内马尾松毛虫、油松毛虫、赤松毛虫、落叶松毛虫、云南松毛虫和思茅松毛虫的防治，其他种类松毛虫的防治可参照使用。
