本标准规定了标称电压为12 V的牵引车（轿车或轻型商用车）及挂车之间7芯12S型电连接器的尺寸、特性要求、接点分布等。12S连接器在准备用于超过7芯要求情况下和GB/T 5053.2的12 N连接器一起使用。
本标准适用于牵引车及挂车之间7芯12S型电连接器。
注： 准备用于超过7芯要求情况下，可以选择使用13芯电连接器替代本标准与GB/T 5053.2规定的7芯电连接器的组合。
