GB/T 25122的本部分规定了机车车辆用电力变流器的术语和定义、使用条件、一般特性和检验方法。
本部分适用于为轨道交通机车车辆的牵引电路和辅助电路（动力车辆、客车及拖车)供电的电力变流器。
本部分也可应用于其他牵引车辆（例如无轨电车等)的电力变流器。
本部分适用于完整的变流器机组及其配置，包括：
--半导体器件组件；
--集成冷却系统；
--包括电感、电容、变压器、电阻、接触器、开关的集成组件；
--半导体驱动单元（semiconductor drive units 简称SDU)及相关传感器；
--保护电路。
本部分包含了下列类型的供电电源：
--交流接触网；
--直流接触网；
--车载电源(例如发电机、蓄电池以及其他电源)。
本部分不适用于为半导体驱动单元（SDU)提供电气控制电源的变流器和为变流器工作相关的其他设备（如传感器)供电的变流器。
