本标准规定了与各种救生设备一起使用的示位灯的产品试验和检查以及标志要求，包括救生艇上的灯。特定地适用于符合经修正的1974国际海上人命安全公约（SOLAS）要求的船舶所使用的、符合IMO的LSA规则，并且通过了国家海上安全管理机关或代理机构型式认可的示位灯。示位灯的制造除了应符合IMO要求，也可考虑其他适合于示位灯的基本规则。
