本标准提供了金卤灯用低频方波电子镇流器的性能要求和工作特性。电子镇流器工作电源频率为50 Hz，最大电源电压为250 V。电子镇流器的输出频率可以是50 Hz之外的某些频率。本标准覆盖的灯的工作电流频率从50 Hz～400 Hz（适用于某些单独的频率范围），与其匹配使用的金卤灯应符合GB/T 18661和IEC 61167的要求。方波电子镇流器定义为灯工作电流波形基本为方波，并符合本标准5.4.4.1中要求的上升/跌落时间的电子镇流器。
