本标准适用于水中稳定性良好且溶解性较高（大于10-2 g/L）的基本纯净物质。
本标准不适用于不纯的产品（例如某些表面活性剂）、不稳定的产品和在水中不稳定的产品，测试物中杂质的存在将很大程度上影响该物质的水溶性测定结果；不适用于水中稳定性良好但溶解性较低（小于10-2 g/L）的基本纯净物质。
