本标准规定了中药的编码规则，并对中药材1 219种、中药饮片1 603味、中药配方颗粒1 364味、中药超微饮片1 337味、中药超微配方颗粒1 337味等进行了分类与编码。
本标准适用于中药材、草药、中药饮片、中药配方颗粒、中药超微饮片、中药超微配方颗粒的分类编码，适用于中药的生产经营、采购、储藏、养护、科研教学、监督管理、中药供应链（物流）、统计的信息处理、信息交换与互联互通。
本标准不适用于中成药的编码。
