本标准规定了与电工电子设备机械结构环境防护设计有关的术语和定义、环境条件类别、环境参数组分类及其严酷程度分级、环境条件在产品中的应用、环境设计指南通则、化学处理层和电镀层的选择及设计、涂覆层的选择和设计以及其他方面的环境防护设计指南。
本标准适用于电工电子设备机械结构（以下简称机械结构），也可供其他电工电子技术领域的机械结构的环境设计参考。
本标准不涉及有关环境意识及环境保护方面的内容，因而不适用于环境意识和环境保护方面的设计。
