GB/T 33588的本部分规定了雷电防护系统的隔离放电间隙（ISG）的要求和试验。ISG可用于雷电防护系统对附近的其他金属设施之间的间接等电位连接。由于功能原因，该处不允许直接等电位连接。
典型应用包括与下列设施的连接：
--电力设施的接地系统；
--电信系统的接地系统；
--电压启动的接地故障断路器的辅助接地极；
--实验室测量接地极；
--带阴极保护和杂散电流系统的装置；
--低压架空电缆的用户进线杆；
--跨接在管道的绝缘法兰盘或绝缘接头两端。
本部分不包括有续流产生的应用场合。
