本标准规定了飞机布线用的单芯、多芯和同轴电线电缆的标识方法，表明电线电缆的类型、规格、来源、生产日期等，以便于电线电缆的维修和故障分析，也便于必要时使用同等电线电缆进行更换。同时，本标准也规定了绝缘线芯的标识方法。本标准是对已有标识信息的补充，也考虑到了每个国家制造商的代码。
本标准适用于飞机电线电缆的标识。
