本标准规定了GB/T 18379中定义的I区段电压等级的限值，用以指导正确选择人体在正常和故障两种状态下使用各种电气设备，并处于各种环境状态下可触及导电零件的电压限值。
各专业标准化技术委员会在考虑了一些重要因素之后，如经验表明能达到合理的安全水平，可以选取本标准之外的电压限值。
本标准不涉及医学用途中病人接触用的电压等级。
本标准不涉及任何绝缘系统或防护方法。IEC 60050-826中定义的电源自动切断用的常规接触电压限值不属本标准范围。
