GB/T 5169的本部分详细规定了在固体电气绝缘材料或其他固体材料试验样品上进行起燃性试验的灼热丝试验方法，目的是测定灼热丝起燃温度（GWIT）。
本试验方法是在一系列标准试样上进行的材料试验。其获得的数据连同由IEC 60695-2-12材料灼热丝可燃性指数（GWFI）试验方法获得的数据一起，按照GB/T 5169.9-2013预选程序，评定材料是否满足GB/T 5169.11—2006的要求。
