本标准建立了纺织产品标签上使用的符号体系，提供了不会对制品造成不可回复损伤的最剧烈的维护程序的信息；规定了这些符号在维护标签中的使用方法。
本标准包括了水洗、漂白、干燥和熨烫的家庭维护方法，也包括干洗和湿洗的专业纺织品维护方法，但不包括工业洗涤。家庭维护方法的4种符号提供的信息也可对专业洗熨人员提供帮助。
本标准适用于提供给最终用户的所有纺织产品。
