GB/T 9978中本部分规定了确定下部受火的非承重吊顶构件耐火性能的试验程序，该类吊顶构件具有的耐火性能不受其上部任何建筑构件的影响。本部分适用于非承重吊顶构件，包括自支承式吊顶、悬挂式吊顶和简支式吊顶。
当未经试验建筑构件的结构符合本部分给出的直接应用范围规定的条件时，已按本部分规定进行耐火试验的构件耐火性能结果可应用于未经试验的同类建筑构件。
本部分不适用于作为水平防火分隔构件用以保护其上方承重构件的吊顶，该类吊顶构件的耐火性能可以按GB/T 9978.5进行试验。
