本指导性技术文件规定了量度继电器、测量仪表及相关设备符号的助记符，这些设备用于变电站、发电站、电力使用及转换设施的监视、控制及保护系统。
本指导性技术文件适用于上述系统的设计、生产及使用。
量度继电器和测量仪表的图形符号有两个作用，即：
——规范标准化助记符；
——限制可能的变化范围。
量度继电器的图形符号中，通过限定符号，如：IEC 60617-S00328(2001-07)以及IEC 60617-S00337(2001-07)，尤其是通过引用辅助文件来描述某元件的功能性行为；相关规则及说明可见于IEC 60617中与IEC 60617-S00327(2001-07)(A00091~A00094)等符号相关的应用注释。
