Scope of Application：
This document establishes the general criteria for the design evaluation of OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) power plants. Its purpose is to outline the design and evaluation requirements for OTEC power plants to ensure stable power generation under various conditions. The target audience includes developers, engineers, bankers, venture capital professionals, entrepreneurs, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies.
This document applies to land-based (i.e., onshore), seabed-based (i.e., installed on nearshore seabeds), and floating OTEC systems. The scope of this document typically extends to the main power output cable connection point connected to the grid.
As a general document, it focuses on the unique or specific power generation equipment and components of OTEC, particularly those related to the intake of warm and cold seawater. Common components between OTEC systems and other types of power plants and floating oil and gas production vessels (such as Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) systems and Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) systems) are referenced to established standards, which are listed in this document as applicable.
