Scope of Application:
This document attempts to provide a categorization of NILM sensing devices used in NILM systems based on the state-of-the-art in non-invasive load monitoring (hereinafter referred to as NILM). The classification of NILM decomposition algorithms and NILM systems may be considered in the future, as well as the performance metrics of NILM systems.NILM systems produce estimated decompositions of electricity consumption. When precise measurement and analysis of electrical energy consumption and/or other electrical parameters are required (e.g., for monitoring electrical installations), systems based on standardized measurement devices [e.g., power measurement and monitoring devices (PMDs), power quality monitoring equipment (PQIs), or meters] are used. Note: In addition to the safety and structural requirements, the standardized measuring devices guarantee accuracy within specified limits and have deviation limits under the action of influencing quantities (e.g. temperature, frequency deviation, etc.). See Appendix C for more information.
